We review tools the way you'd want someone to review yours.
ToolVerdict exists because most "reviews" are press releases with affiliate links. Ours are test reports.
What we actually do
Every tool we cover is purchased with our own money, at the plan tier a real buyer would choose. We then run it through a fixed brief — the same tasks, documents, and deadlines we give every competitor in the same comparison. Vendor demo accounts and guided tours don't count as testing.
Scores are decided before publication and are not negotiable afterward. When a tool changes — a price hike, a new feature, a regression — the article gets a dated update, not a silent rewrite.
How scoring works
Every verdict uses the same four weighted criteria: output quality (does it actually do the job?), speed and friction (how fast from signup to useful result?), pricing honesty (are the advertised prices the real prices?), and learning curve (can a normal human run it without a certification?).
| Score band | What it means | Typical example |
|---|---|---|
| 9.0 – 10 | Exceptional. Buy it now; the flaws are footnotes. | Category leader with honest pricing |
| 7.5 – 8.9 | Strong. Right choice for most buyers, with known caveats. | Great core, weak mobile app |
| 6.0 – 7.4 | Situational. Good for a specific use case, not a general one. | Powerful but hostile onboarding |
| Below 6.0 | Not recommended at current price. We publish these too. | Oversold features, surprise fees |
What we will never do
- Accept payment for placement, score, or removal of a negative verdict.
- Review a tool using only a vendor-provided sandbox or guided demo.
- Publish a comparison where the comparison table was written by one of the vendors.
- Hide affiliate relationships — they are disclosed in the footer and in each article.
